Default 120 Million reasons to think before you act

Did you hear that the Mega Million winner was one single woman in Newark? She apparently played at a local bodega in the Ironbound section. Unfortunately, in her excitement, she exposed herself. In her case, she should have thought before she came forward with the winning ticket b/c apparently she can not claim the prize given that she is in the U.S. illegally.

This is either,
a. the biggest fuax pa in Newark History
b. a made up story
c. scarcasticly funny
d. You decide.

Why didn't she give the ticket to a family member.

Oh I would be devastated if they wouldn't give me my money.

But on the other hand that is ashame.

I know one thing, if I was in this country illegally(which, I'm not), I would find a family member(that's a legal resident) or a close friend to claim the ticket for me and split the money 50/50.

Default ya, the full story is that. . .

She gave the ticket to someone who she thought had a valid SSN, but it turns out that her buddy was also here illegally. So, i found this online at the NyDailyNews, which might shed some light on the topic:

"Does an illegal immigrant have the right to win a Lotto or a Mega Millions jackpot?"
Anyone has the right to claim a winning lottery ticket. Past winners have included kids whose parents bought tickets for them, tourists from other states and countries, prisoners in jail, and, yes, illegal immigrants.
But keeping the win is something else. Prisoners have been sued by their victims and even some states while nonresidents and undocumented winners will have alarger percentage of the win withheld for taxes.
And I have to add that some illegal immigrants have been deported after they claimed a big win, though none in New York. But they were able to take their money withthem.

If that is the way NJ acts with its people, legal or not... I am ashamed of being an American. I have friends who are Mexicans and come in the states for shopping, leisure and even business and play the California SuperLotto. Some have won very good prizes, including one who won the minimum 7million dollar SuperLotto grand prize.

All of them where able to claim their money.... and get it and, the big winner, gets his yearly payments sent via US Certified Mail once a year (so far he has gotten 5 payments out of 26... he selected equal yearly payments in order to best benefit from the prize. Otherwise he would have gotten 50% total in a lump sum).

I dislike racists!, Dammit

Default if i had to go back to my country

I would rather go with my millions. If the girl and her buddy take the lump sum, they get 67 out of the 120 million.

I think i could live off of the 67 million or half if i had to share it.

Default I don't se it as it being racist!

If you are here illegally, you risk getting deported. . .I didn't make up that law, but I understand your sentiments.

Hey Perez, what is it with you and your snide comments about illegal aliens? I am a native Californian. Born and raised in sunny Southern California and proud to be an fourth generation American. I take a dim view on illegalities in general but also feel it is callous to just generalize.

You have an hispanic surname, even if you cannot even speak spanish... and even your English leaves a lot to be desired from time to time. This means that, in your bloods you probably -- at a certain point -- have had illegal blood in there. Shame on you for your racist attitude. Everything else is moot.

Wow, you first make some crappy inuendos about two of our members and now you try to get "funny" on race relations? What is your problem, lady?

Stop being so self-serving, ok? We, at TNJ are not like that!
