Default Smoking. Can you stop?

I always wondered why someone couldn't just put the smokes down. I guess I don't understand because I have never been a smoker but to me it seems all in the mind. While I understand its a habit just like eating or drugs or drinking if you want to truly quit why don't you?

With all of the proven facts of what smoking as well as second hand smoking does why do you continue to smoke?

I ask this not out of criticism but true curiousity?

Cons of smoking

- health issues
- very expensive
- annoying to others around you
- causes health issues for others
- can cause irreversible diseases (cancer for example)

Pros ?

Well its each to their own. I don't really criticize just something I never understood. Why do something that has 0 pros and has so many negatives.

Ummm, I actually quit smoking a while back, but unfortunately one night I decided I needed something that filled the void that was left when I quit, unfortunately, that thing, was straight tobacco, which as far as I'm concerned, is a much, MUCH worse addiction than smoking

I used to smoke 2 packs a day, plus an average of 5 pipefulls of my own private blend tobbacco and 3 or 4 numero 5 macanudo cigars. Quit cold turkey 26 years ago, right before I got married.

Have never regretted that decision.

And no, I am not going to pontificate on the pro's (THERE ARE NONE) and con's (LOTS) of smoking.

Suffice to say that smoking (tobbaco and other leafy shit) is bad for the health, all living things, stinks furniture, makes one reel in the morning when u smell your mate's sewer-like mouth aroma or your mate's smelling yours, sticks to clothing and generally is a dumb ass thing to do.

Nuff said from my side.

Perhaps you can try some alternative new age treatments. Acupuncture, hypnosis, meditation and yoga comes to mind.

NONE of those actually works (they all only put your hard earned cash on whoever performs those spurious services).

The ONLY WAY TO REALLY QUIT IS COLD TURKEY. period

acupuncture - no freaking way am I letting some "doctor" stick needles into me repeatedly

hypnosis - tried it a long time ago, what a waste of $250, ya know how many packs of smokes I could've bought with that money

meditation - they say meditation can also be a great way to relieve stress, but I've never tried it, I don't have the patience to get down on the floor and chant, hmmmmmmmmmm, hmmmmmmmmm, over and over again

yoga - uhhh, NO

it is as much a mental thing as it is a physical thing.

You have to have it in your head that you want to quit. You have to have the will power to quit.

If you don't have the mental part ready for quitting you will not be able to quit no matter what you do.

I started smoking when I was 16 and quit when I was 25. For me it was all because of STRESS!!!

It seems harder for to try and quit this time around. Maybe because really I don't want to quit.
