Default Cruises??

Anybody been on an Alaskan cruise or know anyone who has? Or on a cruise, period?

My friend wants to do a girls cruise over there next year and I don't know because I'm a beach babe.

Pros and cons?? What to look out for? What not to do? When to go?

I just thought I'd ask here first before I go over to Lonely Planet.

I haven't been on a cruise yet, but like Steve, it's high on my to-do list, I have some friends that go on a crusie every year though and they love it.

My Grandparents went on two cruises so far. They swear by the Freestyle cruises. They said the one where you get scheduled for everything are okay, but the ones where you do whatever you want are the best. If I'm not mistaken they went through Royal Caribbean. Cons I guess right off would be sea sickness. I'll ask them tomorrow.

I heard that Royal Caribbean is a whole lot better than Carnival. I'm leaning towards RC for a first trip since it cheaper. Someone told me I should take a Caribbean cruise first to see if I like it and then look into taking an Alaskan cruise. Thank you
